Cycling Concepts of Rocky Hill, Connecticut, has put together an excellent fit studio. Owner Keith Sherman (2006 Level 1-3 Fit Seminar Graduate) passed us photos of these first rate facilities. In a mere 120 square feet they've fit all the ingredients to create a great fit for virutally any rider - featuring, of course, the Fitmaster.

Keith outfitted his Fitmaster with all the add-ons, starting with a fit stem:

Adjustable Crank (from Purely Custom):

and Cyclops Powertap hub:

The studio includes everything else the fitter needs to get through a fit as shown below:

Here's a useful checklist of valuable fitting-related tools:

  • Fit Kit System, including RAD cleat alignment system
  • Goniometer for measuring leg angles.
  • Pre-assembled bars of varying widths.
  • A variety of saddles.
  • Computer system - not just for fit software but also for collecting bicycle, component and accessory information.
  • Setup tools for handling bikes and the Fitmaster - pedal wrench, allen wrenches, tape measure among other handy items.

When we talked to Keith about his Fitmaster and fit studio, he gushes, "It's been awesome. Between the Fitmaster, the Fit Kit, our Fit Kit training and all the other tools, we now set the fit standard in our market.

We love our Fitmaster. We sell 20-30 fully custom bikes a year and it's invaluable for that. We also use it to fit existing bike owners with fit related problems. Often the only way to work with them is when you can make a lot of incremental adjustments. This is easy to do with the Fitmaster.

With the Fit Kit and Fitmaster, training is really the key. It's all come together to help us develop a truly customer centered approach. I'm glad we invested in the three-day seminar. Without it, we'd have great tools but a much harder time getting great results for our clients."

Though Keith's goal is more client satisfaction than hard-nosed dollars and cents, the investment has already proved itself. Before setting up the studio, the most the shop could get from a fitting was a $50 set of measurments. "Our advanced fit services", which cost up to $200, "weren't even possible", according to Keith. The advanced fits, used typically for diagnosis and treatment, generate not only consulting revenue but also additional sales of saddles, bars, stems as well as other related services. "It helps us build a long-term relationship with the customer."

Cycling Concepts faces intense competition like shops in so many markets. Their fit studio has allowed them to set the bar high in their local community. And it works.
